A BACKPACKER died after the car he was driving flipped off a bridge and plummeted into a dry creek yesterday.
His three passengers - two French, one Swiss - were last night alive but injured, one seriously.
Police said the crash happened just outside Timber Creek - about 290km southwest by road from Katherine - just before 4pm.
The 26-year-old Dutch driver is thought to have struck a guard rail that was close to the ground at the Watch Creek Bridge.
Police believe the car mounted the guard rail, flipped and crashed into the dry creek

R.I.P my friend. I still can remember the god time in Sydney, Byron Bay, Surfers Paradise,Brisbane and between at surf camp, even it was only a short ´hello´. Hopefully, where ever you are right now, there are awesome waves to catch. Miss ya ma friend. One day, we gonna go together catching the waves and having a BBQ at night with your delicious selfmade hamburgers and crazy ninja chicks. Thanks for the god time

Police believe the car mounted the guard rail, flipped and crashed into the dry creek bed below, landing on its roof and killing the driver.
Territory Duty Superintendent Louise Jorgensen said the local fire and emergency rescue group had to cut the driver and one passenger free.
The passengers received treatment at the Timber Creek medical centre.
A CareFlight crew then flew two of them, a woman and a man, to Darwin.
CareFlight's Cameron Wade said the man - in his 20s - had very serious chest injuries.
"We had to put him into an induced coma before we put him on the plane," he said.
St John Ambulance paramedics transported the pair to Royal Darwin Hospital when they arrived at the airport at 7.40pm.
St John's Craig Garraway said the woman, aged 27, was semi-conscious and had puncture wounds to one arm.
The third passenger was taken by ambulance to Katherine.
Supt Jorgensen said it was believed driver inattention might have been the cause.
But she said Timber Creek police and northern traffic operations members were investigating.
